To supplement this armament the Infantry section in the rear can fire their weapons from within the vehicle, through the 8 side ports. First seen in 1967 the BMP1 was the first true Mechanised Infantry Combat Vehicle. It was a revolutionary design, whose performance and firepower were far greater than western designs of the time. Since the 1940s The Soviet Union led the world in tank design, The BMP is no exception, and has benefited from decades of practical experience in tank design. It has been very widely exported throughout the world, and many are still in use today. This particular vehicle was made in Slovakia, and was held as a strategic reserve until released.

The BMP is smaller than Western APCs and has far better performance and considerably greater firepower. The BMP-1 was innovative in that it allowed the infantry being carried to fire their personal weapons from within the vehicle whilst remaining protected by armour.
