.The BMP1 is an Russian Armoured personnel carrier developed during the Cold War used for the transport of Infantry on the battlefield. It is heavily armed, is extremely reliable and has excellent off road performance, but has relatively thin armour. The BMP1 is armed with a 73mm Gun, and a co-axially mounted machine gun in the turret. On a rack above the gun a SAGGER Anti-Tank missile is mounted. 4 spare missiles stored within the vehicle. To supplement this armament the Infantry section in the rear can fire their weapons from within the vehicle, through the 8 side ports. First seen in 1967 the BMP1 was the first true Mechanised Infantry Combat Vehicle. It was a revolutionary design, whose performance and firepower were far greater than western designs of the time. Since the 1940s The Soviet Union led the world in tank design, The BMP is no exception, and has benefited from decades of practical experience in tank design. It has been very widely exported throughout the world, and many are still in use today. This particular vehicle was made in Slovakia, and was held as a strategic reserve until released.

The BMP-1 (Bronevaya Maschina Piekhota) was first seen in public in November 1967 at the Soviet Red Square parade. The BMP was the first true infantry combat vehicle, it represented an important shift from the concept of an armoured personnel carrier to an armoured infantry combat vehicle, An armoured troop carrier combining high mobility, High firepower including effective anti-tank weapons. The BMP is smaller than Western APCs and has far better performance and considerably greater firepower. The BMP-1 was innovative in that it allowed the infantry being carried to fire their personal weapons from within the vehicle whilst remaining protected by armour. Individual periscopes and firing ports are provided for each infantry soldier. The BMP-1 carrys a crew of three with eight infantry. The BMP replaced the BTR-50P and complements the BTR-60PB in first-line motorized rifle units. Specifications:
