HISTORY:
This highly successful tank can trace its lineage back to the wartime T34. More T55 have been produced than any other tank, testimony in itself to the success of the design. The vehicles were produced in Russia, Czechoslovakia Poland and China. The reliability of the T55, its relative simplicity to maintain, has led to its export throughout the world. Spares parts are readily available. The tanks fire control, armour protection, and internal and detail fittings have been steadily improved over the years whilst the mechanics have essentially remained the same.The T55 has been compared with its contemporary the American M60-A1e T72 was first seen by the West in 1977. the Tank is of conventional design with a 3 man crew. It was initially made in the Soviet Union, and later licence built in many Warsaw Pact countries.
